This page sets out what our licences cover, who checks the work, and how a visit runs.

Plumber, Drainer and Gasfitter Licences Explained

Queensland splits plumbing licensing into two layers. The person on the tools needs an occupational licence, and the business carrying the job needs a plumbing and drainage contractor licence. The QBCC issues both.

Each layer proves something different. An occupational licence shows trade skill; a contractor licence shows the money sense and business training to run jobs lawfully.

Each class of licence then attaches to its own slice of the trade:

  • A plumber's licence looks after the plumbing itself, unless a job needs an extra endorsement.
  • A drainer's licence handles what sits below ground, the drainage, minus any endorsed work.
  • Gas work stands apart: it belongs to licensed gasfitters, covering the install, removal, alteration, repair, service, test and certification of a gas system, its pipework and connections. Our gas fitter page covers that side.

Before gas work begins, you're entitled to sight the gasfitter's licence on request.

Who Checks Plumbing Work and What You Receive

Two bodies share the checking. The QBCC licenses plumbers, runs the notifiable work system and polices unlicensed work; the local council assesses permit applications and inspects.

Here's the paperwork that should reach you:

  • Notifiable work: your Form 4 copy. If yours never arrives, the QBCC will send one on request.
  • Gas work on a fresh install or an alteration: a gas system compliance certificate, handed over straight away, with the network operator's copy lodged inside five days where the system feeds from a network.
  • Any notifiable stage: you can ask the council to inspect, whenever it suits.

The QBCC's own guidance says licensed trades doing regulated work guard the home, your health and your rights as owner. That's the standard we hold ourselves to.

Where We Work

Our regular run takes in this suburb and the neighbours beside it. Narangba and Deception Bay each have their own pages, and the suburbs we cover page maps the full catchment.

Most homes here are detached 2000s family builds with townhouse pockets among them, so the week splits between domestic repairs and renovation work.

Questions People Ask About Us

Call (07) 3520 4094

How do I check a plumber's licence in Queensland?

Jump on the QBCC website and run a register search. A licence lookup confirms the plumber is current, and an address lookup shows whether a Form 4 was lodged for your place.

What does QBCC licensed mean for my plumbing job?

QBCC licensed means the regulator has issued both licence layers: the occupational licence held by the person doing the work, and the contractor licence held by whoever carries the job. Licensed is the register's own term, so that is the one we use.

Which suburbs around North Lakes does the team work in?

The team covers this suburb plus its neighbours, Narangba and Deception Bay among them, and both have their own pages. The suburbs we cover page maps the full run.

Does the team work on units and rentals as well as houses?

Yes, owner-occupiers, landlords, renters and unit owners all book with us. A rental or strata unit needs the owner's or body corporate's sign-off before work starts. Unitywater looks after the public mains and sewer, while the pipes on your side of the boundary belong to the owner.
